Community Spotlight
This month, our Nail Tech Spotlight shone on Mika Johnson (@contoursbymika), a creator whose Y2K-inspired designs, fearless creativity and authenticity have made her a standout voice in the HONA community.
Mika began sharing her work in late 2023, starting with photos of her early sets before stepping into tutorials and videos. What began as a scary step soon became a passion, helping her grow both as a nail artist and as a creator. Her vibrant style and bold approach to colour have since become her trademark, seen in standout collaborations like Miami Mani, which she describes as fun, colourful and creatively freeing.
Representation and inclusivity are at the heart of Mika’s journey. As a Black nail tech, she’s passionate about visibility and year-round support for Black artists, using her platform to advocate for meaningful, lasting change in the industry. “True inclusivity means being seen, heard and supported beyond a single month,” she says.
Mika finds inspiration everywhere, from fashion and home décor to her love of colour and chrome. Her story is one of growth, confidence and staying true to yourself. From mastering techniques to encouraging others to just start, Mika’s passion for education, creativity and community perfectly reflects the spirit of HONA.
